A PDF of a deck is not a deck. The layouts, the editable shapes and the animations were discarded when the PDF was written, and nothing can bring them back. What this builds is a presentation of those pages: each page rendered as a full-slide image, with its text carried alongside as the slide title and either as bullets or as speaker notes.

Use it when you have to present from a PDF and the original file is gone: a conference that only accepts PowerPoint, a handout you want to draw on while talking through it, or one page from someone else's document that belongs in a deck of your own.

  1. Drop the PDF onto this page. One file at a time, up to 200 MB.
  2. Choose what each slide holds: the page as an image, its text only, or both.
  3. Pick 16:9 or 4:3 to match the projector or the template you will paste into.
  4. Set the resolution for the page images. 150 dpi is enough for a projector; go higher only if the deck will be printed.
  5. Decide whether the page text becomes speaker notes or bullets on the slide itself.
  6. Press Convert to PowerPoint and the .pptx downloads on its own.

The three modes are three different trades. Image gives a slide that looks exactly like the page, because it is a picture of the page, and nothing on it can be edited except what you add on top. Text keeps the words and throws the design away. Both, the default, puts the picture on the slide and keeps the words with it, so the deck stays searchable even though what you see is an image.

The first line of each page becomes the slide title. It is a guess, and it will sometimes pick up a running header. It is still worth making: PowerPoint builds its outline view, its slide sorter labels and its reading order from slide titles, and a fifty-slide deck where nothing has a name is harder to work with than one with fifty imperfect titles you can fix in a minute.

Where the text goes changes what the deck is for. With text as notes on, the whole page text sits in the notes pane, out of the audience's sight but still findable by search. With it off, up to eleven lines after the title are placed on the slide as bullets - right when you plan to rewrite them into a real slide, wrong for a dense page, which does not become a good slide by being cut to eleven lines.

PDF pages are rarely slide-shaped. An A4 or Letter page is taller than it is wide and a 16:9 slide is much wider than it is tall, so a portrait page cannot fill the slide and leaves space at either side. 4:3 wastes less for portrait pages; 16:9 is the default because it is what projectors and laptop screens made in the last decade expect.

Pages are rendered and the .pptx is assembled on your device, the presentation package written and zipped in the browser. Nothing is uploaded, so an unpublished deck stays where it is, and the only request a run makes is the allowance check - a tool name and a hash of the bytes.

  • Nothing of the original presentation is recovered. Layouts, master slides, editable shapes, charts and animations were gone before the PDF existed, and this builds a new deck from the pages rather than restoring the old one.
  • A PDF page is rarely the shape of a slide, so a portrait page placed on a 16:9 slide cannot fill it and leaves empty space at the sides.
